On Friday we decided to have a little competition to decide who does the most work here at Rufus.

Using IO Graph, found at www.iographica.com, when we first got in on the morning we started it up and got to work.

Although this competition was insanely flawed, Derek was off work and the IO graph only tracks mouse movement not typing, we went for it anyway!

At the end of the day we all stopped recording the graphs and put our mice down, and here is what we had!

A unanimous decision was reached that all participants won, as it is the taking part, not the winning, that counts!…but if you look at the graphs its obvious that I (Richard the wor-’king’) won.

Now, running isn’t my type of thing and I would much rather be tucked up in my pit with plenty of ‘z’s’ getting knocked out and my teddy tucked tightly under my arm, but last week saw the annual Great North Run in which people travel from abroad and around the country to compete. I am pleased to say that two people from Rufus did compete and came back with very respectable times. Graeme (the mad one) Madden clocked an impressive time of 2 hours, 12 mins and 30 seconds whilst Angela did it in an equally impressive time of 2 hours, 19 mins and 19 seconds!

Excellenta-mundo I hear you say. Well just listen too this, one of our clients was also taking part, David Lynch from Lynch Healthcare clocked a time of 1 hour and 33 mins! Well done David, that is a time to be proud of. In the meantime though I was happily tucked away with my feet being untested and my legs not turning to jelly. Long live 15 tog duvets!

Our orange Vespa went on a day out last week, visiting some of the North East’s finer sites. Ranging from the Stadium of Light to the Newcastle Quayside our orange ‘V’ embarked on a whistle stop tour, demanding it’s picture taken at every site for it’s scrap book. The ‘V’ could also be seen hanging around the back of the Sage soaking up some of the graffiti and relaxing down Roker beach but the tour came to an abrupt end when the ‘V’ insisted on having an ice cream. No way man, how could it possibly eat an ice cream when it’s got no hands? Anyway here are a few of the lovely snaps that were taken and all the images can be viewed on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rufusshmufus

Our Gareth is back from his travels. Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo and Kyoto were some of the destinations privileged to experience the ‘G’. After having a brilliant time site seeing, cooking strange food on street corners with total strangers and drinking lots of alcohol he has just about managed to drag himself back from his amazing experience.

He also done some useful things while he was away! Spending time researching both eastern and western brands and retail across the cities he visited. The power of global brands and how they build cities just as much as the bricks (or wood) and the people themselves was clear to see especially in ultra fast developing cities like Dubai and Shanghai (in preparation for World Expo 2010).

He has kindly brought us back some presents which included condoms, an umbrella, lots of weird flavoured sweets, a mechanical bug that changes direction when you clap your hands and wait for it… something you sprinkle over your food that probably has good intentions but doesn’t really look very appealing!

Sunderland hosted the 21st ‘Sunderland International Air Show’ this weekend and WOW, what a show it was.

Whilst staring up into the sky, memories came flooding back of the famous film ‘Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines’ in which the legend, Terry Thomas played the cheating Sir Percival Ware-Armitage, an Avro Triplane-flying rogue who “never left anything to chance”.

The funny thing is though, how one thought leads to another… for example, I went from the international air show to… ‘Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines’ to… Terry Thomas to… Terry Thomas’ teeth!

I just could not get the thought of those big, gapped teeth out of my head for the rest of the day and I even went home after and searched SKY incase they were re-running the classic on an off chance.

But unfortunately no such luck. Oh that reminds me I need a check up at the dentists!

We have currently just completed stage 2 of the Sunderland 2018 World Cup Host City Bid. We were initially asked by Sunderland AFC and Sunderland City Council to produce a brand for the campaign, ranging from the logo design, website design, pop up stands, pull up displays, stationery, t-shirts, flags, banners and other supporting materials, in order for Sunderland to have a solid base for the bid to be launched.

Stage 2 consisted of The FA actually coming to Sunderland to see the City’s facilities and to feel the passion Sunderland AFC are generating, to make the bid successful. Ian our MD was kindly invited to the ‘end of visit’ get together at Asiana Restaurant in the Echo 24 building and while there, he bumped into Steve Bruce and Steve Cram. He just couldn’t help himself from slipping into fan mode by asking for a picture with Steve Cram. Nice one Ian.

Keep logging your votes by visiting www.sunderland2018bid.com and selecting ‘Sunderland’ as preferred host city. We can show The FA that we want Sunderland to host matches in the World Cup in 2018 and to prove we are proud of our City.

Come on Sunderland!

Cartoons like Hong Kong Phooey, Captain Cave Man, Catch the Pigeon, Scooby Doo and Top Cat, the list could go on.

But, one of my favourites was The Hair Bear Bunch, a group of bears who’s leader was the afroed, fast-talking Hair Bear, who had the biggest and best hair piece in town.

Now… this is where cartoon hair styles belong, in the cartoons. Not actually on peoples heads… just take a look at these fellas!

What possesses people to style their hair into the most ridiculous shapes!

People shaving their heads with bits missing, bizarre colour schemes and sculpting their hair into a cap shape. What’s all that about?

But I couldn’t help myself being drawn to Gary Spivey, Psychic Medium/Healer’s hair style as it bizarrely reminded me of my childhood and The hair Bear Bunch.

Or it could just be, he reminds me of a giant cotton wool bud!
